Getting Over The Flu

Last week I felt as though a cold was coming on just as I had kicked the last cold that the kids so graciously brought home from school. It turns out that it wasn't just a cold that was brought home this last time, but the dreaded flu! All weekend long I was in bed, sure that I was dying and coughing up my last lung, all while being terribly hot and freezing cold at the same time, it has been less than fun to say the least.

While I am feeling much better today than I did all weekend, I still have quite a ways to go before I am all better. My fever has been on and off all day long, fading away just long enough for silly little me to assume that I am finally getting better, only to roar back up just when I am in the middle of a project, sending me back to bed once more for some rest.

The only good part of being so sick is that all of the boys, dad included, had to spend time together, exiled to the upstairs so that they would not catch any germs. They had fun going out to the store together, having lunch together, playing games together, and just spending time with each other which doesn't get to happen all that often due to my husband's hectic work schedule as well as his long commute. The kids thoroughly wore him out both days, which also hopefully left him with an appreciation for what I normally go through on a daily basis when he isn't here!

Both boys definitely enjoyed their daddy time, and my five year old woke up this morning excitedly asking if daddy was still home, and was quite disappointed when the answer to that question was 'no.' He was even less enthusiastic when I reminded him that he got to sleep in a little bit late this morning because he had to get shots, which he handled like a trooper I might add.

This afternoon both boys have done a great job of being quiet and being nice to each other, knowing that I am still sick and in desperate need of rest. My five year old sat on the phone with his 'girlfriend;' while my adopted stepson is gearing up to march in the local parade this weekend with his AFJROTC unit. He couldn't be more excited about it, and we couldn't be more proud! I only hope that I will be well enough by this weekend to be able to enjoy the parade to the fullest and to take as many pictures as humanly possible!
