It’s time again to explore yet another tip on how to celebrate National Adoption Awareness Month from adoption.com’s calendar. Since it is already late in the day, we will focus on the tip for Thursday, which is to ask your company to sponsor local foster children for the holiday season, by providing gifts for the children in need.

This is a wonderful way to help out children in need if you are not in a position to adopt children from the foster care system. I have actually asked my husband to inquire within his own office tomorrow as to if they will be willing to participate in such a wonderful way in National Adoption Month. You can provide gifts for children who would otherwise not have any, or perhaps even have a child in your home for Thanksgiving dinner.

Having a family to celebrate with, or perhaps even just a gift to open would make the life of a foster child so much brighter. Many children in the foster care system can go their entire childhood without having known what it is like to have a Thanksgiving meal with a family, or what it is like to decorate a Christmas tree, sing Christmas Carols, or light a Menorah. Foster children have many bad memories to look back on, but you can be a part of one of the good ones that they will hold near and dear to their heart for the rest of their lives.

If you are uncomfortable with the idea of opening up your home to a child that you do not know, you can still call your local foster care agency and ask about the different ways that you can sponsor a child in need over the holidays. Perhaps you can provide warm winter clothing, volunteer to take them out for an afternoon of ice skating, or teach them some Christmas songs.

Get the whole family involved in sponsoring a child and remind them what the true gifts really are at Christmas, and what the holidays season is all about. Seeing what little other children have, can really open up the eyes of children whom are much more fortunate than they realize. Not getting that expensive new toy pales in comparison to not having a family to celebrate the holidays with. So give you local agency a call and find out how you can help a foster child this holiday season, as well as passing on this idea to your coworkers, seeing if you can get your entire office involved in such a wonderful idea.
