As I have mentioned before, November is National Adoption Month, or as it is also known, National Adoption Awareness Month, and what better way to celebrate our family than on a giant ship! That’s right we are gearing up for a nice family cruise! This will be the first time that the kids have been on a cruise ship, as well the first time that they will step foot in a different country. To say that they are extremely excited would be an understatement to say the least, they are bouncing off of the walls, running in circles, and smiling wildly for no reason excited.
Now I do have to admit that when this family vacation was booked, the intention was not to celebrate National Adoption Month. However, I find it completely ironic that we are getting together with our entire family, as this cruise is more of a reunion cruise, when I say entire family I mean entire family, during the month that is set aside to celebrate adoption. My adopted stepson was made for this family. To see him interact with his beloved Aunts and Uncles, you would never entertain the idea for a moment that he was not of blood relation to them. They are like peas in a pod and it is amazing to see.
They all share many of the same quirks, loves, dislikes, hobbies, and interests. And it amazes me because I am a step child of this family. So when you break it down the step child, of the step child, fits in absolutely perfectly, and that’s just cool. There was no blood relation when I joined the family, yet I was welcomed with open arms, and the same goes for my children…when I grew up and had them! While I get along with all of them and absolutely love them dearly, I do not ‘fit in’ like my adopted stepson does, I have different interests, hobbies and so forth. He literally is a perfect match, and as he interacts with them it is as though he has been doing it all of his life, and not just the latter years of it.
So here is to family, here is to adoption, and here is to celebrating both!
