With reality TV all the rage right now, it seems as though there is a show out there that highlights just about every facet of life, from absolutely every angle, and today I discovered that divorce through the eyes of a child is no exception. While looking for some background noise to have on the TV while I made the upstairs neat and tidy, I stumbled across a new show on MTV highlighting the life of a young professional skateboarder, and how he manages to balance, friends, school, his career as well as his family, which has recently been pulled apart by divorce.

The show, The Life of Ryan, does a good... more

While flipping through the channels on the television this morning in search of something to have on in the background while I read the news online and cleaned up the downstairs, I happened upon a show that I had never seen before. Like so many other daytime shows, it was a talk show, and my jaw hit the floor when I realized that the host of the show, was the head security guy, from the trashiest of daytime talk shows...Jerry Springer.

Curiosity took over, and I put the remote down, ready to see what sort of hard hitting topic Steve Wilkos was going to... more

A new law in Missouri dropped the maximum age for receiving child support by a year, making 21 the final age that children can receive child support from their non-custodial parents. While some lawmakers are obviously happy with the change, as they are the ones who put it through, others are arguing that the drop in age will only bring around more problems.

Critics worry about the 3,200 college students over the age of 21 who will no longer be able to ... more

This is not something that I had planned on writing today, but after receiving a heartbreaking phone call, I felt compelled to pass this story along to remind others that escalators are not as safe as we have led ourselves to believe. Escalators have become a part of everyday life, and people rarely see them as dangerous, or something that needs to be ridden with caution, when in fact in the past few years more than 7,000 people have been taken to the hospital for escalator related injuries.

Just this afternoon, my mom, while shopping for a birthday present for a friend, witnessed the horrid scene, and blood curdling screams of a young boy, about the age of five getting a finger... more

As the summer winds down and families prepare for their children to go back to school, there is something else that many families are preparing for…divorce. According to lawyers across the nation, the end of summer traditionally marks a spike in divorce rates. Summer family vacations have been taken and paid for, and after giving their children a final family getaway to store in their memory banks, many parents find themselves wanting to get out of their marriage before the start of yet another school year.

So why... more

Custodial parents who are receiving at least $500 a year in child support are going to find a new bill in their mailboxes in October. The state is charging these parents with a $25 annual fee for the government's help in collecting past due child support payments. Roughly 130,000 Virginians will be receiving letters, kindly telling them to fork over the cash for the state's assistance.

The Child Support Guidelines Advisory Committee for Utah, a group of ten appointed individuals who convene every four years to discuss child support related issues, is considering creating an expedited process when it comes to dealing with temporary changes in a child support order, such as when a non-custodial parent has a temporary loss of income.

Realizing that non-custodial parents, just as the rest of us, can occasionally fall on hard times, which impedes their ability to pay their child support obligation, the committee is looking for ways to make it easier for the non-custodial parent to meet... more
